The CW recently had a great series called Stargirl, which is based on the DC character Courtney Whitmore. Geoff Johns was the executive director of the series and created the character based on his real life sister, Courtney, who died in the TWA Flight 800 terrorist bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland.
The first season sets the villains and heroes in Blue Valley, Nebraska, where Courtney moves to from California with her mother, Barbara, a businesswoman, and her stepfather, Pat Dugan (aka Stripsey, STRIPE), a mechanic. Pat's son from his prievous marriage, Mike Dugan, rounds out Courtney's family. Her new friends at her school include Yolanda Montez, Rick Tyler, and Beth Chapel. Rick's dad was the original Hour Man, while Beth and Yolanda are given the Golden Age Justice Society's costumes for Wildcat (Ted Grant's old heroic identity) and Dr. Mid-Nite aka Dr. Charles McNider. Beth inherits the mantle of Dr. Mid-Nite and Yolanda becomes Wildcat after they wear the costumes of the heroes. Inspired by Sylvester Pemberton/Starman's heroics Pat has told Courtney allows her to create a costume as Stargirl and weild the Cosmic Staff, affectionally called Cosmo by Courtney.
The villains have shown up at Blue Valley as well.
Jordan Mahkent/Icicle is the leader of the Injustice Society of America. He "killed" Starman in the pilot episode, and it is revealed he and Dr. Shiro Ito aka Dragon King were able to resurrect Sylvester for their own villainous plot.
Dr. Henry King, Sr. is Brainwave. He's the brains of the operation and plays a huge role in Icicle's Project: New America. A mass brainwashing of all adults 25 and older in Blue Valley and beyond. Some people died before the heroes destroyed the device the villains were able to construct.
Sportsmaster (Larry Crock), Tigress (Paula Brooks-Crock) and their daughter, Artemis Lian Crock are in the show. They end up reformed and help the heroes battle Eclipso in the 2nd season and by the third season, Artemis gets revenge on Icicle for killing her parents.
Solomon Grundy and Ultra-Humanite are in the show as well as The Shade (Richard Swift). Richard Swift becomes somewhat of a hero as well as Grundy, but Ultra-Humanite switches his brain with Starman's body, while the albino gorilla body was given to Dragon King's brain to use. Ultra-Humanite also posed as Golden age actress Delores Winters, working with Dragon King to obtain Winter's body as well as the albino gorilla that most media/cartoons depict him as.
Dragon King and Brainwave have children in the show. Cindy Burman/Shiv ends up becoming a friend and an ally of Courtney and ends up joining the JSA as Dragon Queen. Brainwave's son, Henry King, Jr. is a football player who ends up inheriting his dad's psionic powers. He was killed by his own dad and then used as an illusion to manipulate Yolanda into accepting he somehow survived and was hiding out among Dragon King's henchmen.
Steven Sharpe is the Gambler. He was involved in the heist of the materials needed for the device and the codes needed to access the computers. He may have done some shady deals and led a gang called the No Limit Gang in several heists, but he finds out in season 3 he has a daughter, Rebecca, and wrote a letter to her. He was later killed in mysterious circumstances, which was later discovered to be Icicle who killed the Gambler.
Isaac Bowin and his mother Anya Bowin took on the role of the Fiddler. A super villain with a violin that would cause problems for the heroes. Miss Bowin became the Principal of the Blue Valley High school .Isaac (named after the original Fiddler) was in the band as the tuba player.
Brec Bessinger played Courtney, Anjelica Washington was Beth Chapel, Amy Smart was Barbara Whitmore, Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan, Neil Hopkins as Larry "Crusher" Crock, Yvette Montrel as Yolanda Montez, and John Wesley Shipp as Golden age Jay Garrick aka Flash.
Also, Thunderbolt the genie and his friend Johnny Thunder as well as his modern ally, Jakeem Williams aka Jakeem Thunder is in the show. Thunderbolt appears in a pink pen and when the words "So Cool" are uttered, Thunderbolt appears, and he can grant wishes. He requests that all wishes be specific as Thunderbolt will literally grant the wish as spoken.
The twins Jenny-Lenn Hayden and her brother, Tim Rice aka Obsidian were in the show too! Jenny and Tim's dad was the Original Green Lantern, aka Alan Scott. Jenny found her dad's green lantern ring and later obtained the battery for the ring, only for her to become the battery when she absorbed the lantern's power source into her body. She becomes the new Green Lantern and joins Rick Tyler as a legacy hero. Rick's parents, Dr. Rex Tyler and his wife were murdered by Solomon Grundy on orders of Brainwave. He stayed with his uncle Matt who wasn't nice to him. Joining Beth, Yolanda, and Courtney, as well as being mentored by Pat after school at the Pit Stop as well as being encouraged by Sir Justin (Shining Knight of the Seven Soldiers of Victory) in the 1st season to decipher his dad's code led him to discover the injustice society's secret lair. That's why Dr. Tyler/Hourman was killed.
Icicle also killed the Wizard/William Zarick because Icicle had killed William Zarick's son, Joey and his mother when she tried to leave Blue Valley.
I believe they had this show for 3 seasons, with the 3rd season focusing on the death of the Gambler and the heroes trying to find out who killed him. Cameron Mahkent is the son of Icicle and his grandparents, Sofus and Lilly Mahkent (Jordan's parents) are raising Cameron in his absence. Cameron Mahkent has a talent for art and his art teacher, Paul Deisenger picked up on this in season 2. He even was seen painting a mural of his father and created an ice sculpture of his dad. Courtney's relationship with Cameron (both as a classmate and a potential recruit to the JSA_ led to some disagreements among her teammates, which was also picked up by Mr. Pemberton/Ultra-Humanite, who was sent to spy on the new JSA by Icicle and infiltrate the group. Pat finds out at the end of the season that his mentor isn't who he says he is and is buried alive, only for Pat to escape by dislocating his thumbs (as Starman taught him when he was captured by Dr. Weerd in their first adventure).
The twist ending in season 3 of having Ultra-Humanite's brain in Starman's body was part of the plot to cause a rift among the team and get Rick Tyler to remove the limiter on his hourglass (his father was a chemist that discovered a chemical called Miracalo that gave him and his son super endurance and strength for 1 hour. Joel McHale played Starman as well as the Ultra-Humanite posing as Sylvester Pemberton/Starman.
